In his 25 years as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Spina developed and refined a patient-focused approach to oral and maxillofacial surgery designed to deliver the highest quality results. His approach and the quality of his results have earned Dr. Spina the highest acknowledgment possible in a surgical specialty – the recognition of his fellow surgeons.
Dr. Spina is frequently been called on to provide leadership for national and local organizations such as the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons; the Illinois Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons; and the Chicago Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, among many others. These prestigious organizations call upon Dr. Spina for his expertise as an instructor and educator, teaching best practices in oral and maxillofacial surgical techniques and patient safety.
Dr. Spina is an accomplished clinical researcher and published author in professional journals and textbooks currently used for training and education in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Dr. Spina is a caring physician, respected for achieving exceptional results in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Unique Education and Specialized Training
A graduate of Loyola University, Loyola University School of Dentistry (magna cum laude), and the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine, Dr. Spina completed both his oral and maxillofacial surgical specialty training as well as two full years of general surgery training at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Spina also completed a one-year fellowship specializing in facial cosmetic surgery in Gainesville, Florida.
Before entering private practice in 1999, Dr. Spina began his career in 1997 as an assistant professor at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry in the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. There he spent two years as an academic oral and maxillofacial surgeon training residents and dental students.

Dr. Spina’s surgical interests include the removal of impacted wisdom teeth, general anesthesia and IV sedation, dental implants and associated bone grafting procedures, dental and facial trauma, facial reconstruction, oral pathology, and the correction of facial deformities (orthognathic surgery).
